Hi to all,
I would like to update you on the progress of the experimental incubator project which has been “officially” announced by Food Hacking Base at 30c3 in Hamburg and see if there are people interested in collaboration, it looks like that some people in DIY bio gropus work on a similar projects.
The main idea is to develop device which can controll variety of conditions, for the start we focused on temperature having both active heating and cooling (currently using peltier elements). Humidity, light etc. will follow.
We are now having two prototypes running, sharing the data and starting to prepare the PCB version which will be presented at 31c3. The main advantages of this project so far I would say are good electronic design which was lead by Arnd (Techinc) and coding lead by Marcel and Lars (Techinc and Warpzone), the later shared and updated through GitHub, the first shared on our wiki in form of schemes.
Well that would do for a short update, if you like to learn more check on the project info here
https://foodhackingbase.org/wiki/Experimental_Incubator
the current prototype is described more in detail here
https://foodhackingbase.org/wiki/Experimental_Incubator/ei_prototype_design…
any thoughts especially on improving the cooling performance are more than welcome!
That would be all, have a good time and I hope to hear from you soon, we are now gathering strength to move again one step further so it is optimal time to share all kind of tips, hints and ideas.
Sincerely,
FAA
PS We have a discuss list which we use for the project, it is rather quiet but it is there, just send an email to subscribe if you like

Ahoj, biolabaci...
Brmilo nebrmilo, v biolabu zacly se sklenene banky, odmerky a jine
nadoby ucelem prutocne i neprutocne skladovati. Ulozne prostory se brzo
zaplnily nacinim a slouceninami az nekoho napadlo sklenene veci do kouta
na zem umistiti a krabici prikryti.
I dalsi prirodovedec sel kolem a hledal plochu na kterou by sve Sole a
slouceniny umistil. Zrel dno krabice umistene v koute a novou tezkou
krabici na ni postavil.
Netrvalo dlouho a opet bylo potreba dalsi krabici nekam umistit. Shodou
nahod opet na rovnou plochu krabice pridane v predchozim kroku. Netrvalo
dlouho, a steny krabice prikryvajici sklenene nadoby tihu dvou dalsich
nevydrzely a podlomily se. Gravitacni sily zafungovaly dle ocekavani a
cela hromady dopadla na sklenene nacini na podlaze.
Nastesti sel kolem jiny brmlabak pro plnicku a vsimnul si sesunute
hromady krabic. Zvedavost zvitezila nad lenosti a jal se trosky
prohledat a co zbylo preskladnit. Vsechno dobre dopadlo a pohadky je
konec.
Pouceni je doufam zrejme.

zdravim,
rada by som vas pozvala na bioelektricky vecer ktory sa bude konat 12.
6. v brmlabe, blizssie info tu:
https://brmlab.cz/event/bioelectric_evening
zaroven by som chcela poprosit zaujemcov o ucast, aby vyjadrili svoje
preferencie k tematike na ktoru nam Iva Svandova bude prednasat. Pre
inspiraciu sem davam sylabus predmetu ktory uci - ak vas nieco z toho
velmi zaujma, napiste behom tohto tyzdna. dajte ma do cc, inak mi mail
nepride (niesom na brmlab mailing liste!).
ak by ste naopak chceli niecim prispiet, budem rada :) hlavne by som
potrebovala co najprazdnejsi socroom, aby sa tam dalo pohodlne
prednasat, a pokial mozno co najmensi level bordelu vseobecne. obavam
sa ze vzhladom na moju obhajobo-prijmackovo-skuskovu situaciu tam
nestiham den pred akciou nabehnut a upratat, ako to bezne pred akciami
ktore organizujem robiebvam, tak vas tymto prosim o pomoc.
tu je slubeny sylabus:
MEMBRÁNOVÁ TEORIE BIOELEKTRICKÝCH JEVŮ. Nernstova rovnice, pasivní
elektrické vlastnosti membrány nervového a svalového vlákna. Kabelová
teorie, elektrotonický potenciálm kapacita membrány, prostorová a
časová konstatnta. Rychlost vedení v myelinizovaných a
nemyelinizovaných vláknech. Saltatorní vedení.
PŘÍSTROJE PRO BIOELEKTRICKÁ MĚŘENÍ. Zesilovače, převodníky,
stimulátory, osciloskopy, mikroskopy, záznamová média, počítače, sběr
dat a jejich analýza.
ELEKTROFYZIOLOGICKÉ MĚŘÍCÍ TECHNIKY. Extracelulární záznamy,
intracelulární záznamy, napěťový zámek (voltage clamp), terčíkový
zámek (patch clamp), elektrody pro snímaní bioelektrických signálů.
OBECNÁ ELEKTROFYZIOLOGIE BUNĚK. Měření bioelektrických jevů v
nervových a svalových buňkách, membránové potenciály rostlinných
buněk.
OBECNÁ ELEKTROFYZIOLOGIE TKÁNÍ. Elektrické potenciály živočišných a
rostlinných tkání, elektrické orgány ryb, bioelektrická měření v
žabích oocytech a v kuřecím zárodku, elektrické jevy v organismu
rostlin a živočichů.
ELEKTROFYZIOLOGICKÁ MĚŘENÍ IN VITRO. Periferní nervy, tkáňové kultury
neuronů, nervosvalový preparát, mozkové řezy.
ELEKTROFYZIOLOGICKÁ MĚŘENÍ IN SITU. Vzruchová aktivita v periferních
nervech, kosterních svalech, spinální míše a v mozku. Smyslové orgány
a receptorové potenciály ve smyslových orgánech.
ELEKTROFYZIOLOGICKÁ MĚŘENÍ IN VIVO. Implantované mozkové elektrody,
stereotaxe, měření elektrické aktivity v definované části mozku.
Teoretické základy měření bioelektrických potenciálů v prostorovém
vodiči (těle), elektroencefalogram, elektrokardiogram, elektromyogram,
elektroretinogram.

Hi Til,
thank you! You are of course welcome to visit us, I will gladly
discuss with you about our projects and the whole biohackerspace idea.
I speak fluent German (with a bit of an Austrian accent though), so I
can accomodate to that aswell if you wish. I don't think the laws in
my country are much different from yours actually, eg. a lab has to be
certified for certain procedures (such as handling GMOs), but a lot of
interesting things that are being done in biohackerspace labs across
Europe, and in our lab, are doable within the confines of European
laws. In fact, some of the most active biohackers are from Germany -
there is a group in Munich for example http://biogarage.de/ and there
are several people in Berlin aswell. There is a beautiful documentary
by a German journalist on DIYBio:
http://www.werwiewas.com/de/projekte/die-gen-koeche/ and he has also
written a book on the topic.
Unfortunately, we and our lab are currently mid-relocation to new
premises, so all of the projects are on hold since we are busy with
renovation and moving - thus I am afraid you will catch us a bit
"boxed in" :) We are part of a larger place (the prague Brmlab
hackerspace) which operates continually and I'm sure we can still meet
and talk once you are in Prague.
Have a nice day and hope to meet you soon,
Radka "chido" Haneckova
