I am not really equipped with full details. 
From what he said, it is not mechanical damage. 
Error occurred during the transfer of the data. Since then he cannot access it. 

Hence, it will easier to identify the level of corruption with him. 

If you are interested, I can pass on to him your email or any other means of communication that you prefer.
